Introduction

Hey there Wi-Fi Aficionados-In-Training! My name is James Scott, I've been in IT for about 10 years now. I started as most of us do, doing grunt work as help desk staff, and then desktop support. I work for a software development company, as the Network And Systems Admin / IT manager, I have one additional team member that works under me. We do everything from desktop support, network engineering (In a multi-vendor environment including, Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, Barracuda, Sonicwall, Fortinet WLC and APs, Aerohive, HP Procurve switches, Extreme Switches, Cisco Switches) systems admin (Including our on premises VOIP solution), to WI-FI admin. I also manage our AWS infrastructure, going at 100 servers strong currently. I also do consultations with our customer sites, to help identify network issues on both the wired and wireless side of their networks, as it pertains to our software products.

Although I will admit, until two years ago, I would have guessed that coverage was everything. But our company had a need to help our customers understand weaknesses in their WI-FI deployments. As our products rely heavily on WI-FI, much like a product such as Vocera does. So I began learning more about WI-FI in an effort to better help our customers understand why our product, was having trouble on their networks. Thus my journey into getting my CWNA started. After I passed my CWNA exam I wasn't completely sure how far I wanted to expand my knowledge of WI-FI. After a while I realized that I had taken a pretty deep dive into a lot of the topics the CWAP covers. As I have completed site surveys and protocol analysis at several of our customer sites, and in that process, I've had to learn a lot. At this point I've decided I would like to achieve my CWNE.

This blog will cover some of the less common topics, as I feel like there are already so many terrific blogs out there. Between blogs like Revolution WIFI, WIFI Nigels blog, Devin Akins blog, the Clear To Send podcast, the WLAN pros blog and podcast, and many others. That cover such a large range of topics.

I really appreciate you taking the time to read this introduction. If there are topics that you would like to suggest, please leave a comment below.
